History

In 1970, the Chicago Park District identified a .16-acre property for playground development in the heavily-industrialized West Town community. Using U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funds, the park district acquired the site in 1973 and soon replaced the vacant lot's single basketball standard with a shaded playground and a small spray pool. Recent improvements include a soft surface playground and ornamental iron fencing.

Following its then-common practice of naming parks for plants and trees, the park district designated the site Snowberry Park in 1974. The snowberry is a handsome shrub bearing small, pinkish flowers and white berries.
